Hi! I did a deep dive project on Sunday for MT history last fall and was going back throught that old project and found a neat resource. This is a New York Times Review of the 2017 revival. It is a short and easy read. A quote that stuck out was, “even when it fails  - as it does on occasion - ‘Sunday in the Park’ is setting the stage for even more sustained theatrical innovations yet to come” (Rich). Sondheim was pushing art in the musical theatre world in the same way that George was in 1886. Neither the painting nor the musical were automatically digestible to their respective audiences, but both pushed was art could look like.
